nullNuke sites linked to cancer: New research indicates that leukemia rates in children and young people are elevated near nuclear facilites. The research combined data from 136 nuclear sites in the United States, UK, Canada, France, Germany, Japan and Spain. There are still no clear answers as to what is causing the rise.

Ritalin effects: Doctors warn that the ADD/ADHD drug Ritalin may cause long-term changes in the brains of young children. Researchers injected rats with Ritalin, and observed changes in the areas of the brain linked to decision-making, addiction, appetite, social relationships, and stress, but that the changes seem to gradually disappear as the rats were taken off the drug. Because the brain is constantly changing, scientists warn that doctors should be very careful when diagnosing ADD or ADHD and prescribing Ritalin. The brain changes may actually harm a child who doesn’t have attention or hyperactivity disorder, while they may benefit a child that does have the disorder.
