Eye Test Hazards: Researchers report that the use of the drug apraclonidine to test for Horner Syndrome in infants can cause severe lethargy, sometimes requiring hospitalization and the administration of oxygen. Horner Syndrome is a rare neurological condition characterized by a small pupil and droopy eyelid on one side of the face. The researchers recommend that if at all possible, the drug not be used in infants.

Frustrated Docs: A small study out of Saint Louis University finds that pediatricians with obese patients feel their advice on weight management falls on deaf ears. “Despite their best efforts to provide families with good advice, doctors find families lack the motivation or are so overwhelmed with the stresses of daily life that they don’t attempt to attack weight problems by eating healthier and exercising more.”
