Flying with kids and carseats? No problem!

We’re just back from a trip to the Midwest to visit my husband’s family. It was our first time traveling with two children (ages one and two), and we had to navigate two airports, one of which was the enormous O’Hare, with two kids, two car seats, a diaper bag, and a sanity bag (with books, toys, and bribes).

Hairy Nope. My husband discovered the Travelmate by Go Go Babyz. It’s a dolly that attaches to your child’s car seat. When we got to the airport, we screwed them to the seats, strapped the kids in, and we were off to the races.

The Travelmate has a pull-up handle and sturdy wheels. You only need one hand to steer it around, and the ride is completely smooth for your little one. You can leave it on the car seat for the flight. (Just be sure to remove the dolly when the seat is back in a car!)

A couple caveats: The airplane aisles were too narrow for us to wheel the seats onto the plane, so we had to get the kids out and carry them and the seats once we got to the airplane door, which required some tag-teaming.

Also, my husband strongly recommends that if you get a Travelmate, you practice putting the dolly on and off the car seat before your trip. Once he had it down, it only took him a few minutes, but it’s not the sort of thing you want to be learning on the fly, as it were.

At full price, the Travelmate is $89, so they’re not cheap, but for our needs, we found them to be well worth it.

Happy trails!

We didn’t bring one. I guess if we had, we would have checked it with our big bags.
